On Friday, India made history in T20I cricket by winning their 136th match against Australia in Raipur. This victory not only secured a 3-1 series win but also made India the team with the most T20I wins. Since starting in 2006, out of 213 T20I matches, India has won 136, lost 67, and had one tie.
In three matches, there wasn’t a clear winner, which means those games ended without a result. Despite this, India still has an impressive win percentage of 63.84%. This accomplishment is even more remarkable when compared to Pakistan, as India now has more wins in T20I cricket. Out of 226 T20I matches played by Pakistan, they have 135 wins, making India’s achievement of 136 wins quite notable and surpassing Pakistan in this aspect. It highlights India’s strong performance and success in T20I matches, solidifying their position as a dominant team in the format.
After India and Pakistan, New Zealand comes next with 102 wins in 200 T20I matches. Following them are Australia with 95 wins in 181 matches and South Africa with 95 wins in 171 matches. So, these teams hold notable positions in the list of most wins in T20I cricket.
In the important game against Australia, India scored a challenging total of 175 runs. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rinku Singh, and Jitesh Sharma played well, helping India reach 174/9 in 20 overs. Ben Dwarshuis stood out with the ball, taking 3 wickets for 40 runs, while Tanveer Sangha (2/30) and Jason Behrendorff (2/32) also made valuable contributions.
Australia began their chase well, with Travis Head scoring a quick 31, but they struggled to keep up the momentum. Despite Matthew Short’s 22 and skipper Matthew Wade’s unbeaten 36, they couldn’t reach the target, ending at 154/7, falling short by 20 runs. Axar Patel’s excellent bowling, taking 3 wickets for 16 runs, and Ravi Bishnoi’s economical spell of 1 wicket for 17 runs were crucial. Deepak Chahar also played a part by taking 2 wickets.
India secured the series win with one match still to be played, and the highlight was Axar Patel, who was recognized as the ‘Player of the Match’ for his significant contribution
