Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has responded to opposition concerns about financial irregularities in the Delhi Jal Board by ordering a CAG audit covering the last 15 years. The finance department raised objections, prompting this move. Kejriwal clarified that the audit aims to address allegations and ensure transparency. He emphasized the need for accountability in managing funds to avoid potential water and sewerage issues in Delhi.
Kejriwal expressed the importance of funds for the Jal Board, highlighting potential challenges in water and sewerage systems across Delhi due to delayed releases. He stressed the necessity for bureaucracy to be accountable to the elected government. Kejriwal asserted that if discrepancies are found, appropriate action will be taken, but if everything is in order, the truth will be evident.
Previously, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia accused Kejriwal of discrepancies in the Delhi Jal Board’s tendering process. Bhatia labeled Kejriwal as ‘crime master Gogo,’ alleging silence on corruption-related matters. The BJP highlighted concerns about the tendering process for sewage treatment plants, pointing out the division of plants into categories for different types of work.
Delhi Minister Atishi raised alarms about potential public health crises, urging the release of funds for the Delhi Jal Board. Atishi sought disciplinary action against Finance Secretary Ashish C. Verma, citing his role in withholding funds. She emphasized the critical need for timely funding to address water-related challenges in the city.
