The BJP is considering new faces for Chief Minister positions in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh, following its significant victories in the recent polls. The party aims to factor in the 2024 general election in its selection process. Despite having re-elected former Chief Ministers like Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Vasundhara Raje, and Raman Singh, the BJP sources suggest a potential generational shift in leadership.
The party’s central leadership, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP chief JP Nadda, held a marathon meeting to discuss front-runners for Chief Minister roles in the three states. The leadership is expected to appoint observers soon to oversee the election of leaders by the newly elected MLAs in the three states.
In Madhya Pradesh, potential candidates for the top post include incumbent Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union ministers Prahlad Patel, Jyotiraditya Scindia, and Narendra Singh Tomar, along with senior state leader Kailash Vijayvargiya. Rajasthan also has multiple contenders, including former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Ministers Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Arjun Ram Meghwal, state party president C P Joshi, and leaders Diya Kumari and Mahant Balaknath.
In Chhattisgarh, former Chief Minister Raman Singh, state BJP president Arun Kumar Sao, leader of opposition Dharamlal Kaushik, and former IAS officer O P Chaudhary are among the contenders for the Chief Minister post. It’s worth noting that the BJP leadership is known for surprising choices.
