The UK’s Foreign Secretary, David Cameron, is set to visit the US to confirm the UK’s strong support for Ukraine against Russia. During the trip, he’ll also emphasize the robust UK-US relationship and discuss matters in the Middle East, including providing humanitarian aid to those affected by the Gaza conflict.
The focus will be on enabling a long-term two-state solution for Israelis and Palestinians. The visit coincides with the UK imposing sanctions on military suppliers aiding Putin’s war efforts in Ukraine.
Cameron announced a winter humanitarian response package of Euro 29 million for Ukraine, with an additional Euro 7.75 million for vulnerable groups. These funds contribute to the UK’s total humanitarian support of Euro 127 million to Ukraine and the region in 2023-2024.
The Foreign Secretary will engage in diplomatic talks with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to reaffirm international cooperation and support for Ukraine. Meetings with key Congressional figures are also on the agenda.
“The UK and the US share a mission to defend values providing security and prosperity for all,” said Cameron. The UK remains steadfast in supporting Ukraine, with a total commitment of Euro 9.3 billion in military, humanitarian, and economic aid. Recent actions by Russia, such as increasing troop numbers, are met with international concern.
The UK aims to counter these threats through diplomatic efforts and sanctions targeting military support for Russia’s actions in Ukraine.
