In a hockey match at the FIH Hockey Women’s Junior World Cup 2023 in Chile, the Bharat junior women’s team won 3-1 against Korea in a game to decide the 9th-12th place. The goals for Bharat were scored by Ropni Kumari (23′), Mumtaz Khan (44′), and Annu (46′), while Jiyun Choi (19′) scored the lone goal for Korea.

The first quarter was tough, with both teams trying to take an early lead. Korea had more possession and even got a penalty corner but couldn’t score. Bharat, opting for counter-attacks, couldn’t convert their chances, leading to a goalless first quarter.

The second quarter continued the intense gameplay. Korea’s Jiyun Choi scored with a penalty corner, but Bharat quickly responded with Ropni Kumari’s goal from another penalty corner. Despite both teams attacking, the second quarter ended with a 1-1 tie.

In the third quarter, Bharat took control, dominating possession and challenging Korea’s defenders. Mumtaz Khan’s penalty corner goal gave India a 2-1 lead. The third quarter concluded with India ahead.

In the fourth quarter, Bharat extended their lead with Annu’s field goal. Despite being ahead, Bharat kept up the pressure, not giving Korea a chance to come back. The match ended with a 3-1 victory for Bharat .

This win ensures that Bharat, after finishing third in their pool and missing the title contention, will have a chance to finish ninth in the tournament. They will face either Chile or the USA in their last match of the competition on Sunday.
