Delhi Capitals (DC) head coach, Jonathan Batty, shared insights ahead of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction, stating that the team aims to acquire versatile match-winners rather than focusing on specific skills. With the release of three players, including an overseas slot, DC looks to strengthen their squad during the upcoming auction, scheduled for Saturday.
The team retains top international talents like skipper Meg Lanning, Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Varma, Shikha Pandey, Jess Jonassen, and Marizanne Kapp. Young talents such as Titas Sadhu and Alice Capsey, along with Indian U19 T20 World Cup winner, add depth to the squad.
Reflecting on coaching the team last season, Batty expressed satisfaction and emphasized the goal to clinch the trophy this time. Despite reaching the final in the inaugural WPL, DC faced defeat against Mumbai Indians.
Batty mentioned the team’s preparations for the 2024 season, including two off-season camps for local players and a focus on gathering information on Bharat domestic talent.
Regarding Aussie legend Meg Lanning, Batty praised her leadership and noted their successful collaboration in the Women’s Big Bash League. Lanning announced her retirement from international cricket in November, leaving a remarkable legacy with numerous titles and achievements.
Discussing young talents Alice Capsey and Titas, Batty expressed pride in their progress and DC’s role in their development. Alice’s strong performance last season and Titas’ success in the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup showcase their potential for an exciting tournament.
Alice Capsey, who scored 159 runs in eight games for DC last season, has also contributed significantly to England’s T20I team. Titas, recognized as the ‘Player of the Match’ in the U19 World Cup, has played two T20Is for India, showcasing her promising skills.
