Yogi government’s dedication to improving accessibility and facilities for worshippers at Kashi Vishwanath Dham, there has been a remarkable increase in the number of visitors. In the last two years alone, over 13 crore devotees, including 16,000 international visitors, have flocked to the sacred site. This surge is attributed to the government’s commitment to enhancing the spiritual experience for all.
Sunil Verma, the Chief Executive Officer of Kashi Vishwanath Dham and Special Area Development Authority, revealed that from December 13, 2021, to December 6, 2023, an impressive 15,930 foreign devotees have booked to have a seamless darshan (viewing) of the revered Vishwanath Temple. The efforts to improve the site have not only attracted locals but also international visitors seeking a spiritual connection.
The revitalized Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 13, 2021. Since then, the pilgrimage site has witnessed an unprecedented increase in footfall. Bookings for 2023 have almost doubled compared to the previous year, showcasing a significant rise in both domestic and international interest in the spiritual experience offered at Kashi.
Sunil Verma highlighted the substantial growth in religious tourism, with a record-breaking 12 crore 92 lakh 24 thousand people visiting from December 13, 2021, to December 6, 2023. The CEO provided a breakdown of the increasing devotee numbers, with 40 in December 2021, 4540 between January 1, 2022, to December 31, 2022, and 11,350 between January 1, 2023, to December 6, 2023. This data illustrates the continuous rise in the popularity of the pilgrimage site, reflecting the positive impact of the government’s initiatives.
