On Monday, the Bharat Men’s and Women’s Hockey Teams took off from Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru for the 5 Nations Tournament in Valencia, Spain. The tournament, scheduled from December 15 to December 22, will see both teams competing against strong international opponents.
The Bharat Women’s Hockey Team is set to kick off the tournament against host country Spain on December 15. Subsequent matches include battles against Belgium on December 16, Germany on December 19, and Ireland on December 21. Meanwhile, the Bharat Men’s Hockey Team will face Spain on December 15, followed by matches against Belgium on December 16, Germany on December 19, and France on December 20 to conclude their campaign in the 5 Nations Tournament Valencia 2023.
Before departing for Valencia, Captain of the Bharat Women’s Hockey Team, Savita, highlighted the tournament’s significance. She mentioned that the exposure gained in the 5 Nations Tournament will be invaluable, especially with the FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifier Ranchi 2024 approaching. The team’s focus is on addressing weaknesses and delivering their best performance.
Men’s Hockey Team Captain, Harmanpreet Singh, stressed the importance of the 5 Nations Tournament in their journey towards the Paris 2024 Olympics. Despite being ranked third globally, the team aims to climb higher, and the tournament in Valencia provides an opportunity to test their skills against tough opponents.
