Three Israeli soldiers lost their lives in the southern Gaza Strip during the ongoing conflict with Hamas, bringing the total number of troops killed in the ground offensive to 104. The soldiers were hit by an explosive device in the Khan Younis area, with four others wounded, including one in serious condition. Since the ground invasion began on October 27, around 600 IDF members have sustained injuries.
On the Palestinian side, the Hamas-controlled Ministry of Health reported that between October 7 and December 9, approximately 17,700 Palestinians have died in Israeli attacks in Gaza. The majority of casualties, around 70%, include children, women, and the elderly. Lebanon showed solidarity with Gaza by closing all government offices and public institutions in response to the global call for support.
The IDF identified launches from Lebanon toward Israel, intercepting six launches and striking their sources. This comes after an incident where Israeli soldiers were wounded due to fire from Lebanon. Additionally, the southern city experienced airstrikes and artillery shelling, putting pressure on local hospitals.
Israel’s military targeted over 250 Hamas sites in the past 24 hours, focusing on communication sites and tunnels. An urgent appeal was issued for civilians to evacuate from much of Khan Younis, although the extent of awareness among the population is uncertain due to limited communications in Gaza.
