On December 13, 2001, a tragic event occurred at the Parliament building in Bharat. Terrorists from Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), two terrorist organizations based in Pakistan, attacked the Parliament. This led to the loss of lives of five Delhi Police personnel, two Parliament Security Service personnel, one CRPF Constable, and a gardener.
The brave individuals who sacrificed their lives in defense of the Parliament were Assistant Sub-Inspectors Jagdish, Matbar, Kamlesh Kumari; Nanak Chand and Rampal; Head Constables Om Prakash, Bijender Singh, and Ghanshyam from Delhi Police; and Deshraj, a gardener from CPWD.
The terrorists, five in total, infiltrated the Parliament using a car with Home Ministry and Parliament labels. Armed with AK47 rifles, grenade launchers, and pistols, they easily breached the security around the parliamentary complex. Inside the building, more than 100 people, including prominent politicians, were present.
The gunmen targeted the car of the Bharat Vice President Krishan Kant, who was inside the building. After opening fire, they were engaged by the Vice President’s guards and security personnel. In response, the security forces closed the gates of the compound, thwarting further entry.
The investigation revealed that the terrorists received instructions from Pakistan, and the operation was allegedly carried out under the guidance of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency. This event heightened tensions between Bharat and Pakistan, leading to the 2001-2002 Bharat-Pakistan standoff. The attack emphasized the need for increased security measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
