Security personnel in the Lok Sabha Secretariat were suspended after a serious breach occurred in Parliament. The breach involved two intruders jumping into the Lok Sabha from the visitors’ gallery, releasing smoke cans. The intruders, Manoranjan D and Sagar Sharma, were arrested by the Delhi Police. Additionally, Neelam Azad and Amol Shinde were apprehended outside Parliament for a similar act. All four individuals have been charged under the anti-terror Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
This security lapse took place on the 22nd anniversary of the Parliament terror attack when the intruders leaped into the Lower House chamber during Zero Hour. They moved from seat to seat, releasing yellow gas from canisters and shouting slogans before being subdued by MPs. The Lok Sabha was adjourned until 2 pm that day.
Following the breach, the Secretary General of Lok Sabha wrote to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) for a security review. The MHA responded by ordering an enquiry, establishing a committee led by Central Reserve Police Force Director General Anish Dayal Singh. The committee, comprising members from various security agencies and experts, will investigate the breach, identify lapses, and make recommendations for improving security.
In response to the incident, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla met with political party leaders to address security concerns. He assured the Opposition leaders that a security review would be conducted. As a precautionary measure, no passes for the visitors’ gallery will be issued until further notice.
