Premalatha Vijayakanth, the wife of DMDK President Vijayakanth, has taken on a new role as the General Secretary of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK). This news was met with enthusiasm from Tamil Nadu BJP state President K Annamalai, who congratulated her and expressed confidence in her ability to excel in this position.
The appointment was made official during the 18th general body and working group meeting of DMDK at GPN Palace in Thiruverkadu, Chennai. At this event, 18 resolutions were passed, one of which called for the Tamil Nadu government to reconsider and increase the relief amount for flood-affected individuals from 6000 to 12,000 rupees.
Premalatha Vijayakanth, in her inaugural speech as General Secretary, affirmed her commitment to the party’s welfare-oriented goals. She requested unity among party members and addressed recent rumors about Vijayakanth’s health, assuring that he is well. She emphasized the responsibility entrusted to her by Vijayakanth and urged party members to work together towards the party’s objectives.
Looking ahead, Premalatha set ambitious goals, stating that Captain Vijayakanth’s vision will be realized by 2024, and by 2026, it will come to fruition. She called on party cadres to collectively strive for these objectives. The announcement of her as General Secretary signals a significant development within the DMDK, marking the beginning of a new era under her leadership.
