Delhi Police recently visited the home of Sagar Sharma, who breached security at the Parliament and was subsequently arrested. Sagar’s father, Roshan Lal Sharma, clarified that contrary to media reports, his son only has one bank account, not four. The family collectively holds four accounts, including Roshan Lal’s, Sagar’s, and accounts for his daughter and wife with zero balance.
Roshan Lal explained that there were false allegations about Sagar having four bank accounts, and rumors were spreading inaccurately. He mentioned that Sagar worked as an e-rickshaw driver for eleven and a half months, and the vehicle was sold when he went to Bengaluru. Roshan Lal bought the e-rickshaw on instalments, paying 65 thousand in cash initially and the rest in monthly instalments of Rs 10 thousand.
Sagar’s mother, Rani Sharma, expressed relief after a brief video call with their son. She shared that Sagar assured them of his well-being and appeared not to regret his actions. She emphasized that their belief is that Sagar has done nothing wrong, and any claims in media of him being married with a child are fake.
In the aftermath of the security breach at Parliament, Opposition MPs demanded a statement from Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The demand persisted despite both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha adjourning due to opposition ruckus. Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi insisted that Shah address the security lapse in the supposedly ‘safest building’ in the country.
The breach occurred on the 22nd anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack. Sagar Sharma and another individual, Manoranjan D, entered the Lok Sabha chamber, released yellow gas, and shouted anti-establishment slogans before being subdued by MPs. Outside Parliament, two protestors, Neelam and Amol, with similar gas canisters, were also taken into custody by Delhi Police Special Cell on December 14.
