Mahua Moitra, who expelled from the Lok Sabha because of ‘cash-for-query’ issue. After that, the Directorate of Estate, which is under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, told her to leave her official house in Delhi. They gave her a notice on December 11, saying she had to move out by January 7, 2024. If not, they would start eviction proceedings under the Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants Act) 1971.
Mahua Moitra went to the Delhi High Court to challenge the notice. Her argument is that the cancellation of her accommodation is based on her expulsion from Lok Sabha. But the thing is, the Supreme Court of Bharat is still deciding whether her expulsion is valid or not. This is a big deal because it involves interpreting the constitution.
She’s asking the court to let her keep the government house until after the results of the next general elections, which are happening next year. According to her plea, not having this place is a big problem for her. She says it makes it hard for her to meet and talk with party members, other politicians, constituents, and important people, especially with the upcoming elections.
