In the past 24 hours, Israeli forces have launched a significant offensive against Hamas in Gaza, targeting approximately 300 Hamas-related sites. The operations included air and naval strikes, as well as face-to-face battles, according to the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) statement on Wednesday morning.
Dozens of terrorists were reported to have been killed during the operations. Among the targets was a building in Khan Yunis, identified as a Hamas headquarters and weapons storage facility. Israeli forces successfully seized various weapons, including ammunition, explosive charges, and 20 mortar shells.
A strategic position from which Hamas fired rockets at Israel on Tuesday was also destroyed in the offensive. The IDF highlighted the successful elimination of this threat to Israeli communities.
Additionally, the IDF announced that it had carried out airstrikes on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon in response to rocket fire. The operations aimed to address security concerns and maintain regional stability.
Human Toll and Captives:
Tragically, the conflict has resulted in a significant loss of life, with at least 1,200 people reported dead in Hamas’s attacks on Israeli communities near the Gaza border on October 7. The victims include men, women, children, soldiers, and foreigners. Meanwhile, the number of individuals held captive in Gaza by Hamas is now estimated to be 129. Israeli authorities are working to identify bodies and search for human remains, with some individuals still unaccounted for.
The situation remains complex and dynamic, with both sides grappling with the consequences of the recent escalations. International efforts to address the conflict and broker peace continue, as the region faces ongoing challenges to stability.
