In a recent development, the Uttarakhand High Court has denied bail to Pulkit Arya, the prime suspect in the Ankita Bhandari murder case. The court, presided over by Justice Ravindra Maithani, deemed the crime as severe, citing testimonies from the lower court that confirmed the presence of all accused individuals at the scene during the incident.
During the Wednesday hearing, the family of the deceased revealed disturbing details, claiming that the accused had vandalized the resort in an attempt to destroy crucial evidence. According to the family, the resort’s CCTV cameras were deliberately turned off, and the DVR (Digital Video Recorder) was tampered with.
Ankita Bhandari, a 19-year-old resident of Pauri district, was employed as a receptionist at Vanantra Resort in Rishikesh. Allegedly, Pulkit Arya, the owner of the resort, along with his associates Saurabh Bhaskar and Ankit Gupta, murdered Ankita by pushing her into the barrage. Ankita’s lifeless body was discovered in the Chilla canal in Rishikesh on September 24, six days after she was reported missing.
As of December 4, the Uttarakhand Police have declared that the investigation into Ankita Bhandari’s murder is nearly complete. The only pending procedure is the narco test of the accused. The police had sought permission from the Kotdwar court to conduct narco and polygraph tests on all three suspects.
Earlier this year, the Uttarakhand government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, made a significant decision to rename Government Nursing College Dobh (Shrikot) as Ankita Bhandari Government Nursing College in memory of the victim. The move reflects the state’s commitment to acknowledging and honoring Ankita Bhandari’s life and tragic fate.
