Tulsi Diwas Celebrated with Devotion and Rituals
In a celebration of reverence, Hindus across the globe mark Tulsi Diwas today, December 25, 2023. Dedicated to the worship of Goddess Tulsi, this auspicious day holds special significance in Hindu culture. The festivities center around Chaturdashi Tithi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Margashirsha.
Devotees commence the day by waking up early, taking a purifying bath, and offering water to the sacred Tulsi plant. The air is filled with the warmth of earthen lamps, as people light diyas with desi ghee to honor the goddess.
Rituals include the generous donation of Tulsi plants to temples, symbolizing the devotion and connection with the divine. A notable practice on Tulsi Diwas is the planting of Tulsi saplings at home, a gesture believed to bring auspiciousness to the household.
Lord Shaligram is conventionally placed beside the Tulsi plant, emphasizing the sacred union between the divine entities. It is widely observed that plucking Tulsi leaves on this day is avoided, adding to the sanctity of the occasion.
The heart of the celebration lies in circumambulating the Tulsi plant seven times, accompanied by offerings of garlands, flowers, and sweets. Devotees drape the goddess with shringar items such as dupatta, saree, bangles, vermillion, or silver ornaments as a mark of their devotion.
Mantras resonate in the air, and Aarti is chanted fervently as people seek the blessings of Goddess Tulsi. The atmosphere is filled with piety and devotion, creating a spiritual connection with the divine.
For Hindus, Tulsi Diwas holds immense significance. The Tulsi plant, believed to be the abode of Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, is revered as “Vishnupriya”. the beloved of Lord Vishnu. Devotees firmly believe that engaging in Tulsi pujan with utmost devotion brings forth the blessings of Lord Vishnu and the goddess herself.
Goddess Tulsi is thought to shower prosperity and happiness upon those who worship her on this special day, fulfilling the wishes of her devoted followers. Many Hindus, driven by deep faith, incorporate Tulsi puja into their daily lives, fostering a continuous connection with the divine.
