Security Beefed Up in Poonch District After Ambush Attack
In response to last week’s ambush in the Dera ki Gali area, additional security personnel have been deployed in the Poonch district. The incident involved heavily armed terrorists from across the border ambushing two Army vehicles. The ongoing search operation is concentrated in the forested terrain of Dera ki Gali.
Officials have also deployed additional forces in the Bafliaz area of Poonch district. This strategic move aims to bolster security and prevent further incidents in the region following the attack on the Army vehicles. The ambush resulted in the tragic loss of four Army personnel, with three others sustaining injuries.
On Sunday, a poignant wreath-laying ceremony was held in Rajouri to bid farewell to the four fallen soldiers: Naik Birender Singh, Rifleman Gautam Kumar, Naik Karan Kumar, and Rifleman Chandan Kumar. The ceremony was a tearful tribute to their sacrifice in service to the nation.
The Indian Army, in a statement on Saturday, confirmed an ongoing inquiry into the deaths of three civilians in the Poonch-Rajouri sector. This sector was the site of the terrorist ambush on the security forces. The Army assured full support and cooperation in the investigation, stating, “The Indian Army stands committed to extending full support and cooperation in the conduct of investigations.”
The Army’s post on X emphasized the continuation of search operations in the area of operations after the December 21 incident. The statement mentioned receiving reports of three civilian deaths, indicating that the matter is under investigation. The Indian Army pledged to intensify efforts in the joint operation against terrorists in the 48 Rashtriya Rifles area.
The ambush occurred at around 3:45 pm on December 21 when two Army vehicles, transporting troops to the operational site, came under fire from terrorists. In a swift response, the jawans returned fire immediately. A fierce encounter ensued, leading to the tragic loss of four Army personnel. The joint operation against terrorists in the area has been ongoing since the incident, with a focus on the 48 Rashtriya Rifles area.
