External Affairs minister S Jaishankar is on his 5 day visit to Russia where he’ll be engaged in multiple bilateral meetings, from resolving payments issues between the two countries that have impacted crucial systems, including those in the defence sector, to a new maritime corridor action.
During the foreign minister’s first visit to Moscow in 2023, he’ll be attending various programs. A statement from the External affairs ministry read, “ During this visit, EAM will meet the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade of RussiaH.E. Denis Manturov to discuss matters related to profitable engagement. EAM will meet his counterpart, the Foreign Minister of Russia H.E. Sergey Lavrov for discussion on bilateral, multinational and transnational issues.
It added that “ the time tested India- Russia cooperation ” has remained stable and flexible and continues to be characterised by the “spirit of the special and privileged strategic cooperation ”.
Jaishakar’s appearance in Moscow is pivotal as Bharat and Russia haven’t held their periodic bilateral meet for two times in a row. The former meeting between President of Russia and Prime Minister of Bharat was held in December 6 with Bharat and Russia switching positions as hosts.
