In a recent development, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh met with the families of three civilians who lost their lives near the site of an anti-terrorist operation in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. The incident occurred in the aftermath of a terrorist ambush on two Army vehicles in the Rajouri sector, where four Army personnel were killed and three others injured.
Accompanied by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Singh, Rajnath Singh assured the grieving families of justice during the meeting. Noor Mohammad, the brother of one of the victims, expressed the hope that justice would be served, stating, “We told him about the incident, and he assured us justice would be done.”
Mohamad Sadiq, the uncle of another victim, emphasized the importance of timely justice, saying, “Justice should be done and justice should be given in a timely manner.” Shehnaz Ganai, former Member of the Legislative Council, highlighted the Defence Minister’s commitment to a judicial probe, stating, “Raksha Mantri and LG came and he met victim families and he assured justice would be served and a judicial probe would be done”.
The Bharat Army, in response to the incident, announced on Saturday that it is conducting an inquiry into the deaths of the three civilians in the Poonch-Rajouri sector. The area has witnessed heightened militant activity, leading to the killing of four soldiers during the attack on army personnel on December 21.
In light of the recent surge in attacks on Bharat troops, the Army is planning to reinforce its presence in the Poonch-Rajouri sector. Sources indicate that an additional brigade-size formation had been deployed a few months ago, with plans to introduce another brigade and additional units to support counter-terrorist operations. This strategic move aims to strengthen the counter-terrorist grid and boost the confidence of the local population.
Local police are also actively enhancing their intelligence network to address security concerns. Despite challenges, security forces have successfully curtailed terrorist activities in the Kashmir valley, contributing to overall stability in the region.
