Recent incidents in Canada have raised concerns as businessmen with Bharat roots, particularly those from Punjab, are reportedly facing threats and violence from Khalistani terrorists. Approximately 10 individuals of Bharat origin have been targeted in recent weeks with threatening voice notes and letters for extortion.
Local police have made arrests related to the attacks, including one in Toronto’s Brampton locality. In White Rock, British Columbia, firing occurred outside a businessman’s residence. Andy Dhugga, owner of New Millennium Tire Centre in Brampton, was also attacked, leading to arrests. The attackers are allegedly linked to the group of gangster Vicky Gounder, who was killed in an encounter a few years ago.
The modus operandi involves contacting victims through various social media platforms, making demands for money under threats of violence. The victims are predominantly Indo-Canadian businessmen from Punjab, known for their vehicle showrooms in areas like Brampton. Extortion letters, promising “protection from future violence,” are being sent to multiple businesses, citing recent events in Abbotsford, British Columbia.
The firing incidents have resulted in bullets entering showrooms, but fortunately, due to the occurrences during evening hours, no one was inside. Government sources suggest a lack of coordination between Indian and Canadian agencies, with claims that Canadian authorities are not taking the threats seriously. The sources point out that gangsters arriving in Canada are obtaining asylum, contributing to a deteriorating atmosphere in the Bharat community.
Sources indicate that these criminal groups are allegedly supported by Pakistan’s spy agency ISI and are operating not only from Pakistan but also from Spain, Portugal, and other European countries. The alarming aspect is the circulation of videos on social media, marking a new trend in these incidents. Authorities express concerns about the international reach of these groups and the need for increased cooperation between nations to address the issue.
