Los Angeles activist, Andrew Rudick, is making headlines as he petitions the city council to remove former President Donald Trump’s star from the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame. The star, awarded in 2007 for Trump’s involvement in ‘The Apprentice’ and the Miss Universe pageant, has been a target for vandalism and destruction since the 2016 election.
Rudick argues that Trump does not deserve the honor due to his alleged attempt to overthrow the U.S. government. He expressed his concerns, stating, “This man attempted a coup against the United States, and yet we continue to honor him. How can voters trust the city council to handle challenges if they can’t address this issue?”
The activist’s petition, initiated in 2020, has garnered over 3,800 signatures. Despite the public support, both the city council and the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, responsible for managing the stars, have not taken any action to remove Trump’s star.
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce follows a policy of not removing stars, even for celebrities embroiled in scandals or controversies, such as Kevin Spacey and Bill Cosby. The chamber clarified that this policy remains unchanged, and the cost of repairing Trump’s star, damaged multiple times, is deemed reasonable.
While the city council is still exploring the legal and procedural aspects of star removal, council members have expressed varying opinions. Council member Hugo Soto-Martínez, labeling Trump a “racist, fascist, and a threat to our democracy,” shared that the council is investigating the authority, legal issues, and the removal process. Another council member, Bob Blumenfield, has voiced support for taking Trump’s star off the Walk of Fame.
As the debate continues, the fate of Trump’s star remains uncertain, with the city council navigating the complex terrain of authority and legality in this controversial matter.
