In a seriously shocking incident, a few unidentified men targeted the son of the President of Surrey’s Lakshmi Narayan temple, Satish Kumar, on December 27. It is being reported that the assailants fired at least 14 rounds of fire at Kumar’s son’s house. Though media reports have suggested that the Canadian police are investigating the incident, there has been no confirmation whether the attackers have been identified or not.
This comes at a time when Bharat has been asking the Canadian government to take stringent actions against Sikh separatists who have repeatedly attacked Hindus and Hindu properties in Canada.
Kumar’s son, an entrepreneur, witnessed the incident at around 8.03 am on Wednesday, after which Surrey’s Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) promptly responded. No injuries were reported, however, police officials have noted that the property has sustained bullet marks.
According to media reports, Satish Kumar confirmed that “14 shots were fired at his son’s property, but he restrained from putting a finger on whether the attack was carried out by Sikh separatists or some extortionist.” However, he did mention that the Laxmi Narayan temple was targeted by separatist terrorists in the past.
Earlier Attacks on Hindu and Hindu Properties
This is the third time that the Laxmi Narayan temple or its members have been targeted in Canada, clearly indicating the incompetence and failure of the Canadian government to safeguard the Hindu community.
In November, several Sikh separatist terrorists harassed Hindu devotees outside the Laxmi Narayan temple in Surrey, prompting the Hindu community to respond with peaceful counter-protests. The Hindus in Canada came out in support of those who were targeted by waving religious saffron flags that had “Om” printed on them and chanting Vande Mataram.
In January this year, anti-Bharat graffiti was reported on a Hindu temple in Brampton, sparking widespread outrage within the Bharatiya community in Canada. Then in February, the Ram Mandir in Mississauga, Canada was vandalized with anti-Bharat graffiti. The incident was strongly condemned by the Consulate General of India in Toronto who urged the Canadian authorities to strictly investigate the matter.
These repeated and frequent anti-Hindu and anti-Bharat attacks in Canada and then Justin Trudeau’s “baseless” allegation that Bharat was involved in the killing of terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, led to the two nations’ longstanding and historic relationship spiral into diplomatic dispute.
