In a distressing turn of events in Balkumari, Lalitpur, Nepal, a protest took a tragic turn as clashes erupted between demonstrators and the police. The confrontation resulted in the death of a protestor, confirmed by Lalitpur Police Circle Spokesperson Nawaraj Karki.
The incident unfolded on a Friday afternoon when a group of protestors clashed with the Nepal Police. The catalyst for the clash was the protestors setting fire to the vehicle of Nepal’s Physical Infrastructure and Transport Minister, Prakash Jwala. The situation escalated quickly, prompting the police to resort to force, employing batons, tear gas, and even bullets to control the escalating mob.
The root cause of the protest was the Employment Permit System (EPS), an issue that had agitated the demonstrators. Matters took a grave turn when Minister Jwala’s vehicle (Ba 2 Jha 5861) was set ablaze in Balkumari, Lalitpur, during Friday noon. The clash persisted for over an hour, creating a tense and chaotic atmosphere in the vicinity.

The aftermath of the clash left the area, which is in close proximity to Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu, in a state of calm. After the dust settled, there were no signs of protestors in the area.
The incident highlights the volatile nature of protests and the potential for tragic outcomes when tensions escalate between demonstrators and law enforcement.
