Taking stern action against growing Sikh separatism in Canada which hampers peace in Bharat, the Ministry of Home Affairs declared the designated Canada-based gangster and Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) leader, Lakhbir Singh Landa as an “individual terrorist” under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. This development comes amidst the ongoing diplomatic tensions between Bharat and Canada due to the latter’s failure to curb Sikh separatism in the country.
Significantly, Landa was involved in a rocket attack on the Punjab Police headquarters in Mohali in 2021. According to the notification by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Landa is closely associated with the SFJ Leader and terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu and Khalistan Tiger Force leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, among various others. He is also believed to have close links with Harvinder Singh, also known as Rinda, a gangster based in Pakistan who has joined hands with the BKI.
The MHA has stated that besides being involved in the Mohali attack, he was also actively supplying Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), arms, sophisticated weapons, and explosives to several modules in Punjab, which engaged in terrorist activities.
He was also involved in a slew of criminal cases such as the formation of IED modules, planting IEDs in various locations, killings, extortions, smuggling of weapons, and utilizing terrorist funds not only in Punjab but also in other parts of Bharat.
In September, this year, the National Investigative Agency announced a cash reward of Rs. 10 lakh for information on Babbar Khalsa International operatives, leading to the arrest of Harwinder Singh Sandhu alias “Rinda” and Lakhbir Singh Sandhu alias “Landa”. The NIA Spokesperson stated that both the terrorists, among others, were wanted in a case earlier this year, pertaining to BKI’s terrorist activities. These activities had hampered Bharat’s peace and communal harmony and spread terror in the state of Punjab.
