In a stern message to its strongest rival, North Korean President Kim Jong Un stated that Pyongyang will no longer seek reconciliation and reunification with South Korea. He also gave directions to its military to “thoroughly annihilate” the US and South Korea, while he informed that the nation would increase the testing of weapons.
His threatening remarks against the US come as the nation braces for the upcoming presidential elections. Clearly ignoring repeated sanctions by the United Nations and the US, Kim last week said that in 2024 he would launch three military spy satellites, produce nuclear weapons, and develop attack drones to counter its rivals.
On seeking reunification with Seoul, the North Korean President stated that Inter-Korean relations had become a relationship between two hostile nations and belligerents at war.
Stating that the time has come to acknowledge and clarify Pyongyang’s relationship with South Korea, Kim asserted that in case Washington and Seoul attempt a military confrontation, North Korea’s nuclear war deterrent won’t step back from taking serious actions.
Kim added that it would be a mistake to go any longer with people who consider North Korea as their “main enemy” and only seek opportunities to collapse its regime. During a meeting with army commanding officers, Kim told them that it was urgent to sharpen their “treasured sword” to safeguard national security.
The Associated Press, citing experts, stated that small-scale military clashes might erupt between Pyongyang and Seoul and that the former is believed to launch more intercontinental ballistic missiles that might have the capability of reaching the US mainland.
