In a grand ceremony at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat Utsav 2024’ kicked off today. The event was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Union Minister of External Affairs, Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, and Guest of Honour, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of the National One District One Product (ODOP) Awards 2023 to the well-deserving winners. These awards celebrate and recognize significant efforts in promoting the ODOP Initiative, bringing together districts, states, and Indian missions.
Government’s Commitment and Vision
During the inauguration, Piyush Goyal emphasized the government’s commitment to a brighter future for India’s 140 crore citizens under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He praised the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat Utsav 2024’ as a representation of the government’s whole-of-government approach in the past decade.
Economic Ambition and Targets
Goyal outlined India’s ambitious economic goals, stating that the country aims to reach a USD 5 trillion economy in a few years, becoming the third-largest GDP in the world by 2027. He highlighted the importance of unity and collaboration among the 140 crore Indians to achieve these targets.
ODOP and Tourism Growth
Dr. S Jaishankar emphasized the potential of the ODOP initiative in driving growth in the tourism sector, contributing to employment generation. He stressed the significance of branding and product promotion, pointing out the role of ODOP and Geographical Indicators (GI) in promoting traditional Indian products.
Global Recognition of ODOP
Jaishankar highlighted that ODOP showcased India to the world at various G20 events during India’s G20 Presidency. The ODOP artisans, sellers, and weavers gained global visibility, with the government gifting ODOP products to foreign delegates during these events.
Dignitaries and Collaborative Efforts
The event witnessed the presence of various dignitaries, including Rajesh Kumar Singh, Secretary of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Rachna Shah, Secretary of the Ministry of Textiles, and Pradeep Singh Kharola, Chairman and Managing Director of the Indian Trade Promotion Organisation.
