In a recent meeting, Bharat’s High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Santosh Jha, engaged with Sri Lankan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ali Sabry, to explore opportunities for strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two nations.
Expressing delight, Jha mentioned, “Pleased to have received the newly appointed High Commissioner of #India to #SriLanka this morning. We discussed ways to enhance our bilateral cooperation, acknowledging the deep-rooted civilizational links between #SriLanka & #India.”
On December 29, High Commissioner Santosh Jha met with Sri Lankan Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena. The discussions encompassed various topics, highlighting the “multidimensional relationship” between the two countries. Jha emphasized the enduring connection through centuries-old linkages in #Buddhism.
Earlier, on December 22, Santosh Jha assumed office as the Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, presenting his credentials to Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe. The Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka announced the event, stating, “Assuming charge!! Amb @santjha presented credentials to President H.E @RW_UNP today morning and took charge as High Commissioner of #India to #SriLanka.”
Santosh Jha, appointed as Bharat’s next High Commissioner to Sri Lanka in September, is an IFS officer of batch 1993 and previously served as the ambassador of India to Belgium.
Highlighting the longstanding relationship between Bharat and Sri Lanka, the Ministry of External Affairs stated that the connection dates back more than 2500 years, encompassing intellectual, cultural, religious, and linguistic interactions. Trade and investment have seen an upswing, with collaboration in development, education, culture, and defense sectors. Both nations share a comprehensive understanding on major international issues.
