In an effort to address crucial security issues, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to participate in the three-day annual All India Conference of Director Generals and Inspector Generals of Police in Jaipur from January 5 to 7. The conference will focus on various challenges, including artificial intelligence (AI), cyber security, counter-terrorism, left-wing extremism, and narcotics smuggling.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office in Jaipur has been adorned in anticipation of PM Modi’s visit, alongside Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The 58th DGP-IGP national conference will engage in discussions covering policing and internal security matters such as cybercrime, technology in policing, counter-terrorism challenges, left-wing extremism, and prison reforms.
A significant agenda item includes deliberations on the roadmap for implementing new criminal laws recently passed by Parliament. The conference aims to explore futuristic themes in policing, addressing challenges posed by emerging technologies like AI and deep fakes. The gathering also provides a platform for sharing best practices from states and union territories on various themes.
Of note is the Prime Minister’s active involvement since 2014, where he actively participates in sessions and encourages free and informal discussions to foster new ideas. This year’s conference plans to include free-flowing thematic discussions over meals, allowing senior police officials to share their insights and recommendations with the Prime Minister.
The tradition of organizing annual DGP conferences across the country has been ongoing since 2014, with each event held in different locations. Past conferences have taken place in Guwahati, Dhordo, Rann of Kutch, Hyderabad, Tekanpur, Kevadiya, Pune, Lucknow, and Delhi. Continuing this tradition, the current conference is being hosted in Jaipur.
The conference will be attended by various dignitaries, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, MOS for Home Affairs, Cabinet Secretary, and senior officials of the Government of India, along with DGP of States/UTs and Heads of Central Armed Police Forces and Central Police Organizations.
During his visit, Prime Minister Modi is expected to meet with top Rajasthan BJP leaders, chairing a meeting of MLAs and other party office bearers. Guidelines have been provided to BJP leaders regarding the Prime Minister’s program during the meeting held on January 4 in the BJP office.
