Bharat External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar visited Nepal and prayed at the Pashupatinath Temple for the well-being of both nations. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to visit the temple and shared his prayers for the people of Nepal and Bharat.
During the 7th Bharat-Nepal Joint Commission meeting, Jaishankar and his counterpart NP Saud discussed various aspects of bilateral ties. The discussions covered land, rail, and air connectivity projects, defense cooperation, security, energy, power, and water resources. The visit also saw the signing of a long-term agreement on electricity trade, with Nepal set to export 10,000 megawatts of electricity to Bharat over the next decade.
Several agreements were signed, including those related to High Impact Community Development Projects, long-term power trade, cooperation in renewable energy development, Munal Satellite, and the handover of the 5th tranche of earthquake relief supply post-Jajarkot. Additionally, three cross-border transmission lines were jointly inaugurated.
Jaishankar, in a post on social media, highlighted the comprehensive nature of the Joint Commission meeting, covering areas such as trade and economic relations, agriculture, disaster management, tourism, civil aviation, and people-to-people exchanges.
The Bharat External Affairs Minister also met with former Nepal Prime Ministers Sher Bahadur Deuba, K P Sharma Oli, and Madhav Kumar Nepal, discussing bilateral cooperation. He called on Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, conveying warm wishes from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and discussed the positive momentum in India-Nepal ties.
Additionally, Jaishankar met Nepal President Ram Chandra Paudel, conveying warm greetings from Bharat President Droupadi Murmu. He valued the guidance and sentiments for a strong and expanding India-Nepal relationship.
In a friendly gesture, Jaishankar interacted with members of the Nepal Cricket team, congratulating them on qualifying for the T20 World Cup. He assured them of India’s support in their preparations and emphasized Bharat’s commitment to the growth of cricket in Nepal.
