On the final day of his visit to Nepal, Bharatiya Minister for External Affairs, S Jaishankar, engaged in a meaningful plantation drive at the Bharatiya Embassy in Kathmandu. Welcomed by enthusiastic students from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Jaishankar planted Jacaranda saplings within the embassy premises. Expressing gratitude, he received a token of love from the students who greeted him. The Minister also paid homage to the idol of Mahatma Gandhi, installed in the embassy a few years ago.
During his visit, Jaishankar highlighted the commitment of the Indian government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to redefine its relationship with neighboring countries, especially Nepal. He emphasized the ‘HIT’ formula introduced by PM Modi during his 2014 visit—H for highways, I for Iways, and T for Transways—to foster stronger bilateral ties.
In a joint inauguration ceremony in Kathmandu, Jaishankar underscored the importance of key agreements signed during his visit, contributing to the expansion of the partnership. The focus on physical, digital, and energy-related connectivity has become a cornerstone, strengthening the people-to-people linkages between Bharat and Nepal.
During his meeting with Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ Jaishankar conveyed warm wishes from PM Modi. He recalled the successful visit of Prachanda to India in June 2023, which injected new momentum into the bilateral ties. The Minister discussed the follow-up actions, including through the Joint Commission Meeting, expressing confidence that the partnership is moving from strength to strength.
Throughout the visit, significant agreements were signed in areas such as power sector cooperation and project implementation. Jaishankar expressed optimism that these agreements would positively impact the lives of ordinary Nepali citizens. The commitment to the ideals of Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas reflects the Indian government’s determination to include friendly neighboring countries like Nepal in its development journey.
In conclusion, Jaishankar’s two-day visit marked a positive step towards deeper cooperation and understanding between India and Nepal. The emphasis on connectivity and the signing of key agreements signal a commitment to mutual growth and development in the region.
