In a momentous occasion, the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya is set to be inaugurated on January 22, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other dignitaries in attendance. This marks a significant step in showcasing Ancient Bharat’s rich cultural heritage, evident in the temple’s architectural style.
Traditional Nagara Architecture Style
The temple’s design follows the traditional Nagara Architectural style, known for its towering shikharas, intricate carvings, and symbolic representations. Temples in this style are typically constructed with stone or brick on a square or rectangular plane, featuring a central shikhara and surrounded by small towers called Mukha Mandapa.
The Nagara style has a rich history, originating around the 5th century AD and flourishing during the Gupta dynasty. Notably, it is not confined to a specific period, evolving over time to reflect the changing cultural landscape. The word “nagara” itself means city, and temples in this style are often found in bustling city centers, highlighting the urban influence of this architectural form.
Cultural Blend and Structure
The Nagara style exhibits a fascinating blend of indigenous elements and influences from Central Asia. The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple, a three-story structure, stands tall with each floor reaching a height of 20 feet. The temple boasts 392 pillars and 44 gates, showcasing the meticulous craftsmanship of its builders.
The main sanctum will house the idol of a child form of Lord Shri Ram, and the first floor will feature Shri Ram Darbar. Devotees will enter the temple from the east side, ascending 32 stairs from Singhdwar. This architectural masterpiece pays homage to the cultural and historical significance of Lord Shri Ram, inviting devotees to experience the sanctity of the sacred space.
Consecration Ceremony and Devotee Access
The consecration ceremony, known as pran-pratishtha, will be a crucial part of the inauguration, involving the installation of the idol of Rama Lalla in the sanctum-sanctorum. Following the inauguration, the temple will open its doors to devotees on January 24, providing an opportunity for believers to witness and partake in the spiritual ambiance of the newly constructed Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple.
