In a recent incident in West Bengal, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials faced an attack two days ago while conducting a raid in Sandeshkhali village. Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the leader of Congress in the Lok Sabha, took the opportunity to criticize both the central enforcement agency and the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) government led by Mamata Banerjee.

Chowdhury did not mince words, describing the ED as “an idiot” in response to the attack on its officials. The ED team was reportedly conducting a raid related to an alleged ration scam involving TMC functionaries Shahjahan Sheikh and Shankar Adhya. The attack resulted in damage to the ED vehicles.

State minister Jyotipriyo Mallick was arrested earlier in connection with the multi-crore ration distribution scam, but Shahjahan Sheikh, a close aide of Mallick, remains at large. Despite a lookout notice issued by the ED against Sheikh, Chowdhury dismissed the effectiveness of such measures, stating that the ruling party in Bengal would protect him.

Accusing the TMC of being a ‘look after’ government, Chowdhury claimed that the ruling party works to shield its members, rendering lookout circulars ineffective. He also criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the issue of porous borders, questioning their actions on the matter.

Chowdhury highlighted the lack of law and order in the state under TMC rule, emphasizing the urgency for action to prevent further violence. Meanwhile, West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose expressed concern that Shahjahan Sheikh may have crossed the border and instructed authorities to arrest him immediately, investigating any potential connections with terrorists.

The situation has raised questions about the security and law enforcement in West Bengal, with political leaders engaging in a war of words amidst growing tensions. The incident underscores the challenges faced by enforcement agencies and the need for effective measures to maintain law and order in the state.
