In a recent development, a night curfew has been implemented along the International Border (IB) in the Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir. The decision aims to enhance the area domination by Border Security Force (BSF) troops and curb illegal activities near the border. The official order, issued by District Magistrate Abhishek Sharma on Sunday, highlights the importance of preventing cross-border infiltration and weapon smuggling through drones, especially during foggy weather conditions along the Indo-Pak border line.
The initiative follows a meeting of the district-level standing committee, where BSF authorities proposed the imposition of a daily night curfew on a one-kilometer strip from the IB. This move is expected to enable the BSF to carry out their duties more effectively in safeguarding the border region. The imposed restrictions on civilian movement are set from 9 pm to 6 am within the designated one-kilometer strip along the International Border in Samba district.
To enforce the night curfew, Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code has been invoked. The official order explicitly states, “No person or group of persons shall move in the area up to one kilometer along the International Border in district Samba from 2100 hours to 0600 hours during the night.” This measure is aimed at regulating the movement of people in border areas, ensuring better area domination by the BSF, and thwarting any nefarious designs of forces inimical to Indian security.
District Magistrate Abhishek Sharma emphasized the need for regulated movement in border areas, asserting that it will contribute to better control by the BSF and prevent potential threats to Indian security. In case of necessary movement, individuals are required to produce their respective ID cards to both BSF and police authorities, ensuring a secure and accountable process.
The official order warns that any person found violating the imposed curfew will be dealt with in accordance with the law. Given the logistical challenge of serving the order individually, it is being issued ex-parte. The night curfew is set to come into force immediately and will remain effective for a period of two months from the date of issuance unless withdrawn or rescinded earlier.
