In a significant diplomatic move, Bharat Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with Timor-Leste President Jose Ramos-Horta at Gujarat’s Mahatma Mandir. The meeting, which took place during the 10th Vibrant Gujarat Summit, marked the first Head of State level visit between the two countries. The leaders warmly greeted each other, emphasizing the growing bilateral partnership.
Accompanied by a delegation, including External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, PM Modi discussed various aspects of cooperation with President Ramos-Horta. The visit underscores the importance India places on its relations with Timor-Leste, as Bharat was among the early countries to establish diplomatic ties with the nation.
President Ramos-Horta’s visit began with a warm welcome from Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel at the airport. The Ministry of External Affairs official spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, shared the significance of the visit, stating it as a milestone in the bilateral partnership between India and Timor-Leste.
The friendship between the two nations dates back to January 2003 when they established diplomatic relations. During the ASEAN-Bharat Summit in Jakarta on September 7, 2023, PM Modi announced the decision to establish an Bharat Embassy in Dili, the capital of Timor-Leste, further strengthening ties.
PM Modi’s two-day visit to Ahmedabad also included the inauguration of the 10th edition of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024 at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar. The theme for this year’s summit, ‘Gateway to the Future,’ celebrates “20 Years of Vibrant Gujarat as the Summit of Success.”
Expressing his joy on the platform’s growth, PM Modi highlighted the participation of various world leaders, including his brother Mohamed Bin Zayed. The Vibrant Gujarat Summit, initiated in 2003 under Modi’s leadership as the state chief minister, has played a crucial role in Gujarat’s growth and created opportunities for its people.
With 34 partner countries and 16 partner organizations, this edition of the summit aims to showcase investment opportunities in the Northeastern regions of India. The events include seminars and conferences on globally relevant topics such as Industry 4.0, Technology and Innovation, Sustainable Manufacturing, Green Hydrogen, Electric Mobility, and Renewable Energy.
The Vibrant Gujarat Global Trade Show will feature companies displaying products made with state-of-the-art technology, focusing on sectors like E-mobility, Start-ups, MSMEs, Blue Economy, Green Energy, and Smart Infrastructure. The summit emphasizes India’s commitment to sustainable development and global collaboration.
