Israeli forces have intensified their operations in the southern Gaza city of Khan Yunis, reporting significant success in their efforts. On Monday night, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) revealed that 40 terrorists were killed during the operation, with the discovery of weapons and tunnels shafts.
Soldiers on the ground seized a notable arsenal, including 12 Kalashnikov rifles, four loaded RPG launchers, dozens of grenades, and vest cartridges. The IDF targeted a Hamas building, resulting in the elimination of an armed terrorist.
In central Gaza’s Al Ma’azi area, soldiers, guided by intelligence, identified a terror squad affiliated with Hamas’s Central Camps Brigade. Ground forces directed an airstrike that successfully eliminated the squad.
Naval forces also played a crucial role, attacking military outposts, warehouses, and vessels utilized by Hamas’ naval force in the ongoing offensive.
Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Israel on Monday night amidst the military actions. Blinken is set to engage in meetings with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Isaac Herzog, the war cabinet, and other leaders on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The context of these military operations is the recent wave of attacks by Hamas on Israeli communities near the Gaza border on Oct. 7. Tragically, at least 1,200 people lost their lives in these attacks. The number of individuals held captive in Gaza by Hamas is currently believed to be 129, including men, women, children, soldiers, and foreigners. Efforts are ongoing as Israeli authorities work to identify bodies and search for human remains of those still unaccounted for.
