In the last 24 hours, Bharat has reported 475 new COVID-19 cases, according to data from the Integrated Disease Surveillance Program, National Centre for Disease Control. The number of active cases has seen a slight dip, currently standing at 3,919, which is 83 fewer than the previous day.
Sadly, the country also reported six deaths related to COVID-19, with three from Karnataka, two from Chhattisgarh, and one from Assam. The total number of deaths in the nation has reached 5,33,402.
On a positive note, the number of recoveries continues to rise, with an increase of 552, bringing the total recoveries to 4,44,81,893. The total number of COVID-19 cases now stands at 4,50,19,267.
The data posted at 8 am today also reveals that 32,107 tests were conducted on January 8, as reported by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
Additionally, Bharat has reported a total of 819 cases of the COVID-19 JN.1 subvariant from 12 states till January 8. Maharashtra leads with 250 cases, followed by Karnataka with 199, Kerala with 148, Goa with 49, Gujarat with 36, Andhra Pradesh with 30, Rajasthan with 30, Tamil Nadu with 26, Telangana with 26, Delhi with 21, Odisha with three, and Haryana with one.
While the nation continues to battle the pandemic, efforts to track and manage subvariants like JN.1 are underway to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the situation.
