1. The battle at Chillianwala began on January 13, 1849, during the Second Anglo-Sikh War between the Sikh Empire and the British East India Company. This battle took place near the Jhelum River in the Mandi Bahauddin district of Punjab, which is now in northern Punjab, Pakistan. The English force of 14,000 was led by Lieutenant-General Sir Hugh Gough, while the Sikh army was commanded by Sher Singh Attariwala. The East Bharat Company had to suffer heavy losses in this battle. By the end of the battle, 757 soldiers of Gough’s army had been killed, including 1,651 wounded and 104 missing. Within 2 days of this fight, Gough was removed from his post. Let us tell you that the second Anglo-Sikh war started from April 18, 1848, to March 30, 1849.

2. On January 13, 1949, the first Bharatiya Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma was born in Patiala. Rakesh Sharma was the 128th person and the first Bharatiya to go to space. Rakesh Sharma joined the Bharatiya Air Force as a pilot in 1970. He flew MiG-21 21 times during the 1971 war with Pakistan. At that time Rakesh Sharma was less than 23 years of age. In 1982, Rakesh Sharma was selected for space travel after testing more than two dozen fighter pilots. Rakesh Sharma started space travel from Soyuz T-11 on April 3, 1984, under the joint mission of ISRO and Russia (which was the Soviet Union at that time). He spent 7 days, 21 hours, and 40 minutes in space. Talks were held from space with the crew of Soyuz T-11 through a joint conference.
