In a recent incident that has stirred controversy, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly criticized the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal. A video went viral, allegedly depicting a mob attacking a group of sadhus in the Purulia district. The BJP accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of maintaining a “deafening silence” on the matter, emphasizing the need for accountability.
The video, shared by BJP’s IT cell head Amit Malviya, shows sadhus being reportedly stripped and assaulted by a mob. The TMC has yet to respond to these serious allegations. The BJP took to social media, questioning Mamata Banerjee’s silence and stating, “Shame on Mamata Banerjee’s deafening silence! Are these Hindu Sadhus not worthy of your acknowledgment? The atrocity demands accountability.”
Absolutely shocking incident reported from Purulia in West Bengal. In a Palghar kind lynching, sadhus traveling to Gangasagar for Makar Sankranti, were stripped and beaten by criminals, affiliated with the ruling TMC.

The Purulia police have initiated a case based on a complaint from one of the sadhus, and 12 individuals have been arrested so far. The incident is under investigation, with Purulia superintendent of police Avijit Banerjee stating that the sadhus had asked something to three girls near Gourangdih, leading to a misunderstanding and subsequent assault by the locals.
Equating this incident with the 2020 Palghar mob lynching, Amit Malviya drew attention to the shocking nature of the Purulia incident. He mentioned that sadhus on their way to Gangasagar for Makar Sankranti were allegedly attacked by criminals affiliated with the ruling TMC. The BJP leader claimed that being Hindu in West Bengal had become a crime under Mamata Banerjee’s regime.
The BJP’s criticism extended to the comparison between the Purulia incident and the Palghar mob lynching of 2020. The latter involved the lynching of two sadhus in Maharashtra by a vigilante group. More than 100 people were arrested in connection with that incident.
Shahjahan Sheikh, a TMC strongman and local panchayat leader, came into focus in this context. He has been reportedly absconding since an attack on the Enforcement Directorate earlier this month during raids related to an alleged ration scam. The BJP accused Mamata Banerjee’s government of shielding individuals like Sheikh while sadhus face violence.
BJP leaders, including Bengal president Sukanta Majumdar and MP Locket Chatterjee, expressed outrage over the Purulia incident. They criticized the deteriorating safety conditions under the TMC’s rule and highlighted the contrast between the treatment of terrorists like Shahjahan Sheikh and the violence faced by sadhus.
The situation in West Bengal remains tense as the BJP intensifies its accusations against the TMC government, citing a grim reality for Hindus in the state.
