V. Muraleedharan, the Minister of State for External Affairs, is set to embark on an official visit to Kampala, Uganda, from January 20-22, 2024. The visit aims to participate in the Third South Summit of the Group of 77 and China (G-77). As per the Ministry of External Affairs’ official press release, Minister Muraleedharan will deliver India’s national statement, engage in bilateral meetings with counterparts, especially from G-77 member states, and interact with the Bharat community in Uganda.
The theme of the summit is “Leaving No One Behind,” aligning with Bharat’s vision of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam – the World is one Family. Leaders from the 134 member states will convene to strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, sustainable development, climate change, poverty eradication, and the digital economy.
In Kampala, the participating member states will reiterate solidarity, unity, and complementarity of the South, aiming to speak with a unified voice to achieve common goals and objectives. The summit emphasizes boosting South-South cooperation, fostering collaboration on various global challenges.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar Represents Bharat at NAM Summit in Uganda
Simultaneously, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is actively participating in the 19th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit in Uganda. Sharing glimpses on social media, Jaishankar is seen engaging with various foreign dignitaries during the two-day summit.
The NAM Summit, led by Uganda under the theme ‘Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence,’ brings together more than 120 developing countries. Bharat, a leading and founding member of NAM, fully supports Uganda’s theme. Jaishankar, leading the Bharat delegation, arrived in Kampala on Thursday and expressed his anticipation for engaging with colleagues during the summit.
Bharat’s commitment to the principles and values of NAM remains unwavering. As a forum of 120 countries not aligned with any major power bloc, NAM plays a crucial role in fostering cooperation and dialogue among nations.
The 19th NAM Summit and the G-77 Summit in Uganda reflect India’s active participation in global forums, emphasizing collaboration, shared prosperity, and addressing common challenges.
