In a highly-anticipated event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to participate virtually in the consecration (pran-pratishtha) ceremony of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya on Monday, January 22. The event marks the beginning of Modi’s re-election campaign for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. The temple, standing at 50 meters tall, is dedicated to Lord Ram Lalla and has been constructed on the site where the Babri Masjid once stood before being demolished in 1992.
The town of Ayodhya is buzzing with excitement as tens of thousands of devotees have gathered, creating a lively atmosphere with flags, honking horns, and drums. The roads leading to Ayodhya are congested, trains are packed, and many devotees are marching to the sacred town on foot.
The day’s schedule is packed with significant events. Prime Minister Modi is expected to arrive at Ayodhya’s airport at 10:25 am and will then proceed to the Ram temple premises by helicopter. Between 11 am and 12 pm, there might be a tour of the Ram Mandir premises. The pran-pratishtha ceremony, presided over by Modi, is scheduled to begin between 12:05 pm and 1 pm. After the ceremony, around 1 pm, Modi will depart from the temple premises and address a public meeting of approximately 7,000 attendees.
At 2:10 pm, Prime Minister Modi will visit Kuber ka Tila, where the ancient temple of Bhagwan Shiv has been restored. The event is attended by nearly 7,000 invitees, including politicians, industrialists, celebrities, and sportspersons.
The Ram temple itself is a marvel, constructed in the traditional Nagara style. It boasts a length of 380 feet, a width of 250 feet, and a height of 161 feet. Supported by 392 pillars and featuring 44 doors, the temple’s pillars and walls showcase intricately sculpted depictions of Hindu deities. The main sanctum sanctorum on the ground floor houses the idol of Ram Lalla, a 51-inch sculpture crafted by Mysuru resident Arun Yogiraj.
The consecration rituals began on January 16, with the final rituals set to conclude on Monday afternoon in the ‘abhijeet muhurta,’ as per the temple trust. The ceremony holds immense significance, drawing attention from across the country, with the central government announcing a half-day holiday and many states following suit. Temples nationwide have also declared special festivities in celebration of this historic occasion.
