On the sidelines of the Third South Summit, Bharat Minister of State for External Affairs, V Muraleedharan, expressed his delight at reconnecting with the Bharat diaspora in Uganda. He commended the community for its significant contribution to the country and the trust they enjoy from the local leadership. The minister encouraged them to continue their valuable efforts, emphasizing the unique qualities that set the Indian community apart in Uganda.
During the interaction, members of the community showcased their cultural talents through dance performances. A heartwarming moment unfolded when a young child presented a pencil sketch to Minister Muraleedharan. The minister took to social media platform X to appreciate the gesture, commending the young artist named Soorya for the beautiful pencil sketch and acknowledging the community for their splendid cultural performances.
In addition to engaging with the Indian diaspora, Minister Muraleedharan held a bilateral meeting with the Foreign Minister of Equatorial Guinea, Simeon Oyono Esono Angue. Both leaders expressed a strong desire to expand bilateral relations between their respective countries. The minister shared details of the positive meeting on social media, underlining the commitment to further enhance cooperation.
Earlier in the summit, Minister Muraleedharan actively participated in diplomatic discussions with key representatives from Somalia, Oman, and Botswana. Notably, he had a fruitful meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister of Somalia, Salah Ahmed Jana, discussing matters aimed at strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations. The minister highlighted Jana’s affinity for Hindi and India.
The Third South Summit, themed “Leaving No One Behind,” resonated with India’s ethos of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam – the World is One Family. Minister Muraleedharan attended the inaugural session, emphasizing the importance of solidarity, unity, and complementarity among the South-South nations. The summit aims to boost cooperation in trade, investment, sustainable development, climate change, poverty eradication, and the digital economy among the 134 Member States.
Minister Muraleedharan’s official visit to the Ugandan capital, Kampala, from January 20-22, aligns with his participation in the Third South Summit of the Group of 77 and China (G-77). During the visit, he will deliver India’s national statement and hold bilateral meetings with counterparts from G-77 member states. The summit is a platform for Member States to speak with a unified voice, emphasizing their common goals and objectives in fostering South-South cooperation.
