In an exciting display of history and prowess, the Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to present the ‘Tangail’ formation during the Republic Day flypast. This formation will feature the heritage aircraft Dakota, flanked by two Dornier Do-228 aircraft. Notably, the Dorniers will be flying using a blended mixture of Aviation Turbine Fuel and Biofuel, underlining a commitment to sustainable aviation practices.
The ‘Tangail’ formation pays homage to a significant moment in Bharat military history—the successful airdrop of IAF personnel on December 11, 1971, during the India-Pakistan war. This historic event marked the first-ever airdrop of Indian security forces on hostile territory.
Additionally, the Republic Day parade will showcase made-in-India weapon systems and platforms from the Bharatiya Army. Among the highlights are the LCH Prachand chopper, Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launchers, and Nag anti-tank missiles.
LCH Prachand: A Homegrown Multi-Role Combat Helicopter
The LCH Prachand, the first indigenous Multi-Role Combat Helicopter designed and manufactured by HAL, brings potent ground attack and aerial combat capabilities to the modern battlefield. Equipped with modern stealth characteristics, robust armor protection, formidable night attack capability, and advanced weaponry, the LCH stands out as a versatile asset for the Indian Armed Forces.
Nag Anti-tank Missile: A Formidable Force
Developed by DRDO, the Nag anti-tank missile is designed to engage highly fortified enemy tanks in both day and night conditions. With “Fire & Forget” and “Top Attack” capabilities, it employs passive homing guidance to defeat main battle tanks equipped with composite and reactive armor. The missile carrier, NAMICA, based on BMP II, showcases amphibious capability.
Bharatiya Army’s Display of Indigenous Strength
The Republic Day parade will feature the latest armoured and specialist vehicles produced indigenously by the Indian industry. Notable entries include the Quick Fighting Reaction Vehicle, Light Specialist Vehicle, All-Terrain Vehicle, T-90 tank, BMP-2 infantry combat vehicle, drone jammers, Advanced Sarvatra bridge, Medium Range Surface to Air Missile launcher, and multi-function radar.
Swathi Weapon Locating Radar: Enhancing Battlefield Safety
The Swathi Weapon Locating Radar, an indigenously designed system, plays a crucial role in locating guns, mortars, and rockets firing at own troops. This capability enables counter bombardment by own firepower resources, ensuring operational tasks can proceed without interference from the enemy.
Women’s Role in Defense Forces Takes Center Stage
Highlighting the growing role of women in the defense forces, the Republic Day parade will feature a tri-services all-women marching contingent. Comprising 60 women soldiers, this contingent represents the Army, Air Force, and Navy, symbolizing the significant contributions of women in the country’s defense.
In a year where French President Emmanuel Macron is the chief guest, the Republic Day parade promises to be a showcase of India’s indigenous strength, technological advancements, and inclusive representation within the defense forces.
