The conflict between two communities in Mira Road’s Naya Nagar area escalated ahead of the Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha on Monday, prompting an investigation by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Jayant Bajbale. The DCP revealed that the trouble began when members of the Hindu community were seen raising slogans in vehicles in the Naya Nagar area around 11 pm on January 21.
According to a victim of the violence, the attackers compelled him to chant religious slogans, highlighting the intensity of the situation.
In response to the unrest, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis issued a stern warning against rioters. On Monday, heavy security deployment accompanied the demolition of ‘illegal’ constructions in Mumbai. Thirteen individuals have been arrested in connection with the scuffle that broke out on the night of January 21.
Another incident on Monday evening involved a procession being pelted with stones in Thane district. Several participants and police providing security were injured in the attack. Fadnavis assured that strict action would be taken against the accused, with ongoing efforts to identify additional perpetrators through CCTV footage.
The Deputy Chief Minister urged residents not to succumb to rumors, emphasizing the commitment to maintaining law and order in Maharashtra. The situation remains tense, and authorities are actively working to address the underlying issues and prevent further escalation of violence.
