Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for recognizing Thakur’s significant contributions to the welfare of backward classes in society.
Pathak expressed his gratitude, stating that PM Modi’s decision to confer the Bharat Ratna on Thakur, known as the ‘Jan Nayak’ or People’s Leader, reflects the Prime Minister’s commitment to social justice. He lauded Thakur’s lifelong dedication to the upliftment of underprivileged sections and called the decision a testament to PM Modi’s leadership and vision.
The Deputy Chief Minister emphasized that Thakur’s tireless efforts for the marginalized and oppressed had played a crucial role in improving the lives of people. He noted that, till now, no government had considered honoring Thakur in such a manner, making this recognition all the more significant.
Karpoori Thakur, born on January 24, 1924, and passing away on February 17, 1988, hailed from the Nai Samaj, one of the most backward sections of society. His political journey, marked by a commitment to social justice, saw him serve as the Chief Minister of Bihar. Thakur’s simplicity and monumental contribution to Bharat politics have left an indelible mark.
Thakur’s political career began with the Praja Socialist Party, and later he joined forces with the Janata Party during his initial tenure as Bihar’s Chief Minister from 1977 to 1979. He later aligned with the Janata Dal, showcasing a significant shift in his political affiliation.
