In anticipation of Republic Day celebrations, authorities in Kashmir have heightened security measures to ensure a smooth and peaceful event in the valley. Officials reported on Tuesday that police and other security personnel are actively engaged in sanitization and area domination exercises across the region.
Police and paramilitary forces have been strategically deployed in the city and district headquarters, with checkpoints established at key locations, particularly at entry points to Srinagar and other districts. Random vehicle checks and thorough frisking of individuals are being conducted to prevent the movement of any subversive elements, officials confirmed.
While the primary Republic Day function will be held in Jammu under the supervision of Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, the most significant celebration in the valley is set to take place at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar. Similar events are planned at district headquarters.
To bolster security, a multi-layered security apparatus has been implemented around the venues, including Bakshi Stadium. Officials have emphasized the need for security agencies to remain vigilant and prevent any disruptions to law and order, ensuring a peaceful atmosphere during the celebrations.
Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, V K Birdi assured that all necessary arrangements are in place, and security has been significantly increased to guarantee smooth celebrations in Srinagar and other parts of the valley. When questioned about potential militant threats, Birdi stated that field formations are actively taking necessary measures.
Director General of Police (DGP) R R Swain, in a high-level meeting held on Saturday, reviewed security measures across Jammu and Kashmir. Swain emphasized a proactive approach and the implementation of innovative district-level plans to thwart any intentions of adversaries.
In preparation for the Republic Day events, a full-dress rehearsal is scheduled at Bakshi Stadium and various other venues across the valley on Wednesday. The heightened security measures and comprehensive arrangements aim to ensure the safety and success of the celebrations in Kashmir.
