1. Established on January 25, 1950, the Election Commission of Bharat operates under Article 324 of the Constitution, functioning as an autonomous and quasi-judicial institution. The Commission’s primary objective is to conduct elections in Bharat, ensuring a free and fair selection of representatives. Sukumar Sen served as the first Election Commissioner of Bharat, while Rajiv Kumar presently holds the position as the 25th Chief Election Commissioner. Alongside him, Anoop Chandra Pandey and Arun Goyal serve as election commissioners. Initially, the Commission had a single Chief Election Commissioner; however, on October 16, 1989, two additional commissioners were appointed for the first time.

2. On January 25, 1971, Himachal Pradesh achieved full-state status, a declaration made by the then Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, during a public meeting in Shimla. This announcement marked Himachal Pradesh as the 18th state of the country. Previously part of the Punjab state under Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s rule until 1857, it became a union territory in 1956 before attaining full-state status on January 25, 1971.
