In an exciting development ahead of Bharat’s 75th Republic Day celebrations, French President Emmanuel Macron has unveiled a bold initiative to welcome 30,000 Bhartaiya students to study in France. This announcement comes a month after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Paris as the chief guest for France’s National Day last year.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), President Macron shared his vision, stating, “30,000 Indian students in France in 2030. It’s a very ambitious target, but I am determined to make it happen. Here’s how.” He outlined the plan, highlighting the establishment of new centers, alliances françaises, and international classes across the country to facilitate the learning of French. Additionally, France aims to streamline the visa process for Bharat students who choose to pursue their education in the country.

President Macron emphasized the pursuit of excellence in choosing France as a study destination. The initiative includes launching new pathways for learning French in public schools through the “French for All, French for a Better Future” program. The creation of international classes will enable students who may not speak French initially to join French universities. Moreover, the country pledges to ease the visa process for former Bharatiaya students who have studied in France.
France currently boasts 35 universities in the QS ranking and approximately 15 in the Times Higher Education ranking. Macron expressed optimism about the collaborative future between Bharat and France, stating, “India and France have so much to do together, now and in the future. We will achieve this with you, our young people, in exchange and cooperation, in trust, in friendship!”
In response to the announcement made in September 2023, the French embassy in Bharat has introduced several measures, including a five-year short-stay Schengen visa, to attract more Bharatiya students. These initiatives align with the people-to-people ties, envisioned as one of the three pillars of the strategic partnership between the two nations.
President Macron, who is also the chief guest for India’s 75th Republic Day celebrations, extended warm wishes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the people of India. “My dear friend @NarendraModi, Indian people, My warmest wishes on your Republic Day. Happy and proud to be with you. Let’s celebrate!”
