Central Reserve Police Force Women Band Wows at Republic Day Parade
In a historic moment at the Kartavya Path, Constable Sosa Alpaben led the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Women Band contingent during the Republic Day Parade. Comprising 100 skilled women personnel, the band played the patriotic tune, ‘Desh Ke Hum Hai Rakshak’. Notably, CRPF holds the distinction of raising one of the world’s first Women Band Contingents.
CRPF’s Women Contingent and Gallantry Honors
Following the band, a Women’s contingent from CRPF, known as the ‘Peacekeepers of the Nation,’ marched, led by Assistant Commandant Megha Nair. CRPF achieved a significant milestone by raising the world’s first women-armed police battalion. The force has a proud history of gallantry, with Constable Kamlesh Kumari being honored with the Ashok Chakra, the highest peacetime award, for her supreme sacrifice during the Parliament Attack.
Diverse and Professional CRPF Women Contingent
The CRPF Women Contingent, consisting of 148 women drawn from units across the country, represents a mini-Bharat. Engaged in anti-insurgency, anti-naxal, and law and order duties, these Mahila personnel showcase the diversity of the nation. CRPF has a remarkable history, earning 2,553 medals since its establishment in 1939.
CRPF’s Historic Achievements
The CRPF has a rich history of valor, including repulsing Chinese aggression in Ladakh in 1959, celebrated as Police Commemoration Day. Other notable feats include repelling a full Pakistani Infantry Brigade at Sardar Post in 1965, responding to Fidayin Attacks on the Parliament in 2001, and securing Ayodhya Ram Janam Bhoomi in 2005.
President Droupadi Murmu Kicks Off 75th Republic Day Celebrations
President Droupadi Murmu commenced the 75th Republic Day celebrations by unfurling the national flag at Kartavya Path. Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed her, and the celebration began with the National Anthem and a 21 Gun Salute. President Murmu and French President Emmanuel Macron, the chief guest, were escorted by the President’s Bodyguard – ‘Rashtrapati Ke Angrakshak’.
Historical Moment for President’s Bodyguard
The President’s Bodyguard, the seniormost Regiment of the Bharatiya Army, marked a special moment as it completed 250 years of service since its establishment in 1773. The two Presidents arrived at Kartavya Path in the ‘Traditional Buggy,’ a practice revived after 40 years. The ceremony highlighted the shared history and traditions of Bharat and France on this momentous Republic Day.
