In a bid to promote gender inclusivity, the Assam Government has appointed 36 new Scientific Assistants, including more than half women, in the Directorate of Forensic Science, announced Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.
CM Himanta expressed on X post termed the move as “a significant step towards better policing” aligns with Bharat’s goal to strengthen the criminal justice system and ensure higher conviction rate as the nation has shifted towards a forensic-based investigation methodology.
Bharat need more than 90,000 forensic scientists to meet the evolving requirements of modern investigations. Subsequently, the demand for forensic experts is likely to rise in the future.
CM Himanta also inaugurated the 30-bed model hospital in Sootea, situated under Tezpur sub-division on January 27.
Built at a cost of Rs 6 crore, the hospital’s foundation stone was originally laid in 2019 by then-Health Minister Himanta. The newly-inaugurated facility is poised to bolster healthcare services, catering to the holistic well-being of the local populace.
In addition to the hospital inauguration, CM Himanta also unveiled the Tezpur Government Law College, built at a budget of Rs 16 crore, located in the Chakighat locality of Tezpur under the Sonitpur district.
Looking ahead, the CM outlined ambitious plans for the State, including the establishment of 10 more law colleges and a state-of-the-art university in Gohpur, Biswanath district. Moreover, an industrial center spanning approximately 35 bighas of land is slated for development around Chakighat.
Expressing his adventurous spirit, Dr Himanta shared his desire to embark on a motorcycle journey upon the completion of key infrastructure projects, including the tunnel route from Numaligarh to Golaghat, the Kaziranga Flyover Bridge, and the Dibrugarh to Majuli road.
Continuing his dedication to education and welfare, he laid the foundation stone for the Tea Tribes and Tribal Students’ Hostel at Tyagbir Hem Barua College, Jamugurihat, with an allocated budget of Rs 88 lakh. This hostel aims to facilitate higher education for tea tribes and tribal students in the region.
